Triple Amputee Veteran Juan Dominguez Drums For The Phoenix Patriot Foundation

Katy Cruise had the honor of attending the 7th Annual Talentscale & Phoenix Patriot Foundation Charity Golf Tournament and Inaugural Poker Tournament at the Red Hawk Golf Resort, in Temecula, CA. The event featured live entertainment from the Ashley Krouse Band and a drum solo by nationally recognized, Wounded Combat Veteran and triple amputee, Juan Dominguez.

The day started with an early morning Golf Scramble to kick off the event on the 18 hole course, a great barbeque, followed by the Poker Tournament and live entertainment.  There were great sponsors supporting the event, in which a portion of the proceeds went to benefit three Combat Wounded veterans, on their personal journey after military service.

Doug Poldrugl with Talentscale said, “This as a yearly event and we decided to make Phoenix Patriot Foundation its Charity of choice to support the local Veteran movement”.   Katy Cruise spoke to Darrin Isham with Trident Outdoor Adventure who played a big part of putting together the event’s live entertainment and stage. Darin is also involved in the Helping Our Home Town Heroes Foundation. (HOHTH)

Katy Cruise asked Jared Ogden (Founder/CEO) of Phoenix Patriot Foundation, about his personal story behind starting the Foundation and its purpose. “My good friend Dan Cnossen was severely injured while we were deployed to Afghanistan, and I wanted to do something to help him. The focus of PPF is to create opportunities for Combat Wounded Veterans and facilitate their reintegration as positively contributing to society. We want to help them, post-recovery to accomplish their personal goals.” Katy asked, “What makes the PPF different than other organizations?” Jared replied, “We create fun and challenging events, in a small group setting so we can get to know them on a personal level and really build that personal relationship and trust.  Then we find out what their goals are and raise funds to help them achieve them. The niche we are filling is strictly to help combat wounded vets who have lost limbs.”

Katy Cruise also had the honor of speaking with one of the benefactors, Army Ranger Sergeant Jackson Gudel, who was wounded in May of 2011 on his sixth deployment, and suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), after a Suicide vest explosion. Jackson said, “My goal is to get mentally and physically healthy and to relocate to Florida with my family.” Funds from the event today will help Jackson achieve his goals.

The other benefactors of the event, who were not present, were Navy SEAL Lt. Dan Cnossen who lost both legs when an IED blew up, while on deployment to Afghanistan.  Dan has achieved remarkable things since his injury and is currently training with the U.S. Paralympic Biathlon Team for the games in Sochi, Russia in 2014. Portions of the monies raised will help Dan train for this event.

Benefactor, Marine Lance Corporal Jeff Grosky, who lost one of his legs when an IED blew up, while on foot patrol in Afghanistan, is pursuing a job as a mechanic and monies raised will go to send him to an accredited 6 week training program to advance his career.

The event was a clear success with over 150 golfers and visitors for the live entertainment, as well as about $10,000 was raised for the Phoenix Patriot Foundation and its benefactors. KFROG and EZ103, part of the CBS Radio Riverside group, supports our veterans and look forward to future events and partnership together.
